Tithe and Prosper

When I was a young kid I didn’t know of tithing, I don’t even recall seeing the basket be passed around for collection. When I was teenager I learned of the basket. I asked friends, family and my friend’s families questions about this basket where you put money. I guess I never really got a clear picture of tithing, but I made sure to always have at least one dollar with me to place in that basket. I was always under the impression that you put money in the basket to help the church keep its doors open. I’m sure at some point, someone mentioned the bible talks of giving ten percent, but it never rang any bells for me.

Today, many years later, I now understand the importance of tithing. Tithing is not because the minister passes a basket and asks for handouts. Tithing is not based on the need to keep the doors open at the church (although it does help that). Tithing is something that you as an individual choose to do to become more prosperous by putting God first financially. Tithing is an ancient prosperity secret told of in the bible. By giving one tenth of all your earnings consistently you can become financially secure, healthy, happy and prosperous in all areas of your life. Sounds silly, but really it’s not that silly. I have heard and read many stories of how tithing has changed people’s lives for the better. By tithing I not only improve the quality of my life and prosper, I help my church prosper, as well.

When reading Catherine Ponder, “The Prosperity Secrets of the Ages,” I became convinced. We began tithing consistently. She tells stories of her own and others who had troubled times financially, physically, emotionally and were able to overcome these troubles by putting God first financially. One of her own stories describes an event that could happen to any one of us at any time:

At the time I was considering the tithing law of prosperity, I was also debating whether I should start a savings account. From a business standpoint I felt that it was more important to begin a savings than to begin tithing. “Tithing can come anytime,” I thought. Instead the savings account was opened.
Everything went along fine for a time as I proudly watched my saving account grow, week by week. Then one day my son became violently ill. Only after he had the finest doctors and medical care in a local hospital did the turning point come and he recovered. His hospital bill was more than the amount I had painstakingly managed to place in my saving account!
A valuable lesson came from that experience. I learned that if I did not put God first financially and give to his work voluntarily, I would have to give
anyway – involuntarily to pay for the unhappy experiences in life which I did
not want.”

Catherine Ponder goes on to explain that since she had begun tithing her son had never been that ill again, nor did he suffer regular childhood illness. She too also benefited by gaining better health. The author of “Prosperity Secret of the Ages,” experienced first hand how putting God first by tithing benefits you directly.

Her story is just one of many. There are stories that explain how people have doubled or tripled their income by putting God first financially. There are other stories of how relationships have improved by putting God first financially. This was just one example of millions how putting God first financially by tithing one tenth of all your earnings to the place where you worship or gain spiritual enlightenment can make you prosperous in all phases of your life!

Sorry ma'am,

That is some scary comment to make - So the blood of Jesus was not powerful enough to bring healing to that lady's kid? Tithing was now used in its place? Ah!

Tithing is not binding on the new testament church. There is simply no scripture that supports this.

Hello Eliteinchrist and thanks for viewing my blog.

The story your read and comments about the story are based on true accounts from Catherine Ponder's life. The remaining stories are of others told by Catherine Ponder.

I don't think anyone ever implied that you must tithe to be healed. I think healing was just an additional benefit of tithing. So many people think that tithing is to prosper financially only, but it's not you can tithe and find many blessings enter your life.

Again, no one ever implied or meant to imply that you can not be healed unless you tithe.

Thank you again for reading the blog and I wish you a very blessed and prosperous day.

This is a response to the eliteinchrist,

are you sure of what you are saying when you say that tithing is not binding or what not in the new testament??? Then let me ask you the following questions:

1. How did Cornelius, the Italian and the uncircumsized one, get to obtain salvation through Peter coming to his house as the Lord forced him to break his fast??? That's in the book of Act.

2. Why do think that Lazarus obtain the gift of resurection, and on that note please go back and count all the resurections in the Bible and find the common thread amongst all these people.

3. Give me the name of one poor person where Jesus ate and slept with his disciples?

4. Why did Ananias and Sephora died? Hum.. I think it has something to do with tithing, giving, and being generous.

You can find countless acts of tithing in the new testament...but then again instead of disputing the facts why don't you try as a new testament Christians and see for yourself?

I was skeptic before but like the song says I was blind but now I see there is no comparison to a Christian life filled with tithing and offerings. I have tithe and gave like no other in the year 2008 and I can tell you that blessings really do chase me like He promised. They are chasing and I'm overwhelmed I look at how much I have in my account and I am scared because I am only 25.

I do not know the lady who has this blog but she is telling the truth. And it take a rebirth of the spirit to understand the things of the Lord. Jesus was a giver all day everyday and we need to do the same.

Why do think that Islam grows so fast as a religion, learn about the seven pillars of Islam and how they live by those rules to be prosperous.

Marlene,

My jaw dropped in disbelief when I read your comment. It was so way off the mark and I have no idea what you are on about. How does all that you have written prove that today’s church is required to tithe?

Did Cornelius tithe to Peter before he received salvation or was it the other way round? Where is the tithe angle here?

So all accounts of resurrection in the bible were because of tithing? Seriously?

What difference would a person’s status have made to Jesus and how does that relate to tithing?

Ananias and Sapphira died because of tithing? Now that is an outright lie!

It appears you have no clue what tithing is. So before you jump right into a conversation make sure you first have your facts right.

God bless.
