Tithe and Prosper

When I was a young kid I didn’t know of tithing, I don’t even recall seeing the basket be passed around for collection. When I was teenager I learned of the basket. I asked friends, family and my friend’s families questions about this basket where you put money. I guess I never really got a clear picture of tithing, but I made sure to always have at least one dollar with me to place in that basket. I was always under the impression that you put money in the basket to help the church keep its doors open. I’m sure at some point, someone mentioned the bible talks of giving ten percent, but it never rang any bells for me.

Today, many years later, I now understand the importance of tithing. Tithing is not because the minister passes a basket and asks for handouts. Tithing is not based on the need to keep the doors open at the church (although it does help that). Tithing is something that you as an individual choose to do to become more prosperous by putting God first financially. Tithing is an ancient prosperity secret told of in the bible. By giving one tenth of all your earnings consistently you can become financially secure, healthy, happy and prosperous in all areas of your life. Sounds silly, but really it’s not that silly. I have heard and read many stories of how tithing has changed people’s lives for the better. By tithing I not only improve the quality of my life and prosper, I help my church prosper, as well.

When reading Catherine Ponder, “The Prosperity Secrets of the Ages,” I became convinced. We began tithing consistently. She tells stories of her own and others who had troubled times financially, physically, emotionally and were able to overcome these troubles by putting God first financially. One of her own stories describes an event that could happen to any one of us at any time:

At the time I was considering the tithing law of prosperity, I was also debating whether I should start a savings account. From a business standpoint I felt that it was more important to begin a savings than to begin tithing. “Tithing can come anytime,” I thought. Instead the savings account was opened.
Everything went along fine for a time as I proudly watched my saving account grow, week by week. Then one day my son became violently ill. Only after he had the finest doctors and medical care in a local hospital did the turning point come and he recovered. His hospital bill was more than the amount I had painstakingly managed to place in my saving account!
A valuable lesson came from that experience. I learned that if I did not put God first financially and give to his work voluntarily, I would have to give
anyway – involuntarily to pay for the unhappy experiences in life which I did
not want.”

Catherine Ponder goes on to explain that since she had begun tithing her son had never been that ill again, nor did he suffer regular childhood illness. She too also benefited by gaining better health. The author of “Prosperity Secret of the Ages,” experienced first hand how putting God first by tithing benefits you directly.

Her story is just one of many. There are stories that explain how people have doubled or tripled their income by putting God first financially. There are other stories of how relationships have improved by putting God first financially. This was just one example of millions how putting God first financially by tithing one tenth of all your earnings to the place where you worship or gain spiritual enlightenment can make you prosperous in all phases of your life!

True Giving

Luke 21: 1-4

"As Jesus looked up, he saw some rich people putting their gifts into the Temple money box. Then he saw a poor widow putting two small copper coins into the box. He said, "I tell you the truth, this poor widow gave more than all those rich people. They gave only what they didn't need. This woman is very poor, but she gave all she had to live on."

What can be true giving for you? Only you can decide what that is.

I believe in tithing. I believe that by giving one tenth to god and god's workers you will reap one hundred fold. However, if you give one tenth with anger, with mistrust or any hesitation you are not going to reap from said tithe. You should freely given one tenth. That means without any ill feelings or concerns about what you are giving. Make sure you bless the money and know in your heart that you will benefit from your tithe. Say I will get this or something better back in return. Also, know that your tithe will benefit those you are giving it to. Who are you giving it to? You are tithing to God or God's workers.

Remember only you can decide what true giving is. This giving has to come without strings, without attachment. It must come from your heart. Bless your giving and know you will reap the benefit from your good will.

BLESSED BE

Why tithe?

Tithe to release unlimited supply. Charles Fillmore explained as follows:

"When a person tithes, he is giving continuously, so that no spirit of grasping, no fear, and no thought of limitation gets a hold upon him. There is nothing that keeps a person's mind so fearless and so free to receive the good constantly coming to him as the practice of tithing. ...Tithing is based upon a law that cannot fail, and it is the surest way ever found to demonstrate plenty, for it is God's own law and way of giving."

God has promised to provide for each of us. God has provided for each of us. It is up to us to grab the supply God provided and bring it to use in our everyday lives. One way to grab that supply is by invoking the law of tithing. If you tithe ten percent to God and God's workers you will reap a hundred fold.

Tithing from your security deposit.

When you rent a house, condo, townhouse, or apartment you put a deposit down with the landlord. The money you use to place the deposit with the new landlord is from your savings or directly from your pay check - either way if you tithe you probably tithed upon receipt of the funds. Then you wrote the deposit check.

It's time to move out now. You clean your home and make sure everything is in order. You do your walk through and the landlord gives you a sign off. You know that you will be getting your security deposit back soon from that landlord. That's great. Because most deposits are equal to one months rent, one generally uses that incoming deposit to pay rent in their new home.

Which brings me to the fork in the road. I've been very faithful on tithing all incoming money. A returned deposit is incoming money. It is also money, in my opinion, equal to funds coming from your saving account. Which as mentioned earlier you already tithed off that income when you originally wrote out that security deposit -- so why tithe again?

In this particular instance that I'm speaking of is my own current situation. My landlord not only paid me my deposit back, but also had to pay me a $250.00 fine for late return of the security deposit. Immediately, I acknowledged I needed to tithe off the $250.00. Makes sense. New money. New benefit. Equals tithing.

Somehow, I guess I was uncertain as to whether I should tithe off the deposit as well. I spoke with my SO who always assumed we would be tithing off the entire balance. Not the response I wanted to hear. However, I guess I was wavering, as to whether to tithe or not, since I had to ask in the first place.

Another factor that we have learned is you should never tithe when you are not happy about tithing. By doing so, will leave you with a negative feeling about tithing and no benefit can come from that negativity.

My problem is I'm not upset about it. I just needed to have the confirmation that tithing from the full amount was the right thing to do. Think about that. Why? Tithing is never bad. You can never tithe to much. Therefore, tithing is always the right thing to do.

You might be wondering if that was the outcome, why in the world am I rambling about this. Simply, because when I searched the internet for others with this situation I didn't find anything. Therefore, if someone else stumbles across this one blog entry and it benefits them in their time of confusion, this rant was completely necessary.

Now let's all go tithe!

Pay it forward = tithing

You've heard of the movie PAY IT FORWARD. It had everyone out doing good deeds for everyone else, the only thing requested in return was they do a good deed for another.

Tithing is very much like paying it forward. You give to God one tenth of your income, lottery winnings, Christmas money, etc and in return GOD PROVIDES FOR YOU. You continually pay it forward by tithing on a regular basis.

You never go wrong when you tithe!

GOD BLESS
